Super nice, convenient kit! I’ve never used a ferro rod before. It was super simple; just scrape the black off the rod, and slide the tool down the rod at 45 degrees, with force. I haven’t gotten it to light the rope material yet, despite several tries. It’s my first time; I’m sure I’m doing something wrong. I landed a few big sparks on it too. Regardless, I am happy with the product. I’ll have to try the plugs eventually too. And probably get the arc lighter 😅. Lol

This fire rope was a huge let-down. In perfect conditions, it took 15 minutes with the ferro rod to start a fire. It was fascinating to watch live sparks go out on a nest of frayed rope. My buddy's packed dryer lint caught on fire faster and more reliably than this.
Once it was lit, the rope burned well. I might try the fire plugs instead, but this continues to under-perform when I need it, either backpacking or at home.

My survival instructor uses the fire plugs but I’ve seen these on his table. So I was curious. The waxed cotton fire stick is fun to work with and it ignites well, even when soaked!. (I dunked it into the water bowl first to see how it would ignite). I’m impressed! It’s now part of my adventure kit!
