If you’re not good with a ferro rod it’s hard to get lit on its own. It combined with a well put together tinder bundle can be fairly easily to start the fire. Once lit it will float in water but do not submerge while lit. Fire didn’t last but maybe 5 minutes when the used as advertised. All in all I would try different products and compare.

The firestarter did burn, but it did not burn hot enough to set simple paper on fire. It's smoldered and turned brown but did not ignite. Not exactly what you need in a camping or emergency situation. I tried using it by the strand and I tried whittling it down into powder. Same result .
